The summer season is in full swing but the month of August also marks the close of the Athens and Epidaurus Festival and the start of summer holidays for locals. Museums and archaeological sites are open throughout August although the events calendar takes a break in the weeks leading up to and following the traditional August 15 religious holiday. A full cultural agenda of events starts again from the very end of August and throughout September where the cities fabulous open air theatres take centre stage with world class music and drama. We’ll keep you up to date with what’s on in Athens during August and September 2019 as the cultural programme unfolds.
Shows for this period will be released closer to their date. It is typical for performances to be announced up to 3 or 4 weeks prior to the performance date although this does not apply for all venues. Stay up to date for what’s on by signing up to our newsletter for updates.
