Eirini Vourloumis Benaki Museum Pireos

IN WAITING by Eirini Vourloumis

Where: Benaki Museum’s Pireos St annex
When: On now – 27 May 2018
Why Go: Exploring the microcosms of Athens

‘In Waiting’ is the first museum exhibition of Greek-Indonesian photographer Eirini Vourloumis, presenting works from her recently published book of the same title, in November last year. The exhibition is presented at the Benaki Museum Pireos Street Annex.

This formative body of work is an examination of the city of Athens and its role as a physical stage for the economic crisis. As Greece has been moving towards change through turmoil and demonstrations, it also has a silent life, an everyday responsibility, which is becoming increasingly hard to deal with. Primarily, Vourloumis is exploring interiors of government buildings and schools to question how these spaces reflect modern Greek culture and character.
