The work of American artist Mike Kelley (1954 – 2012) comes to the Museum of Cycladic Art for his first solo exhibition, ‘Mike Kelley: Fortress of Solitude’. In collaboration with NEON organisation, the exhibition brings together a range of key works from across the artist’s career in order to reflect on the uncanny condition of psychological homelessness in the contemporary world.
Whether using found stuffed animals as emotional effigies of long lost memories of childhood or evoking the psychic homelessness through superheros such as Superman, we are reminded that no matter how hard we try, we can’t go home.
Curated by Douglas Fogle.
Michael “Mike” Kelley was an American artist. His work involved found objects, textile banners, drawings, assemblage, collage, performance and video that often focused on American class, popular culture and youthful rebellion.
