The Béjart Ballet Lausanne returns to the majestic stage of the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens for two unmissable evenings of dance.
Based on the iconic choreography of the late dance pioneer, Maurice Béjart, his two ballets will be performed including, ‘7 danses grecques’ (7 Greek Dances) and ‘Boléro’.
In 7 Greek Dances, genuine Greek steps were embedded in Maurice Béjart’s choreography to bring to mind the fragrance and colour of Greece. Béjart, who was fascinated by the music of Mikis Theodorakis, based this dance composition to mathematical precision on Theodorakis’ score. A rare and unique opportunity to enjoy what was a major collaboration of two artistic giants, performed for the first time at the Odeon.
In Boléro, ballet is set to the musical work of French composer Joseph Maurice Ravel. Béjart created this choreography in 1961and has since been loved and performed all over the world. Leading soloists, Maya Plitsetskaya, Sylvie Guillem and Jorge Donn will perform.
The programme includes new work ‘Tous les hommes presque toujours s’imaginent’ (All Men Almost Always Imagine) created by the current artistic director Gil Roman, entirely choreographed to the music of John Zorn, one of the leading composers of contemporary American music.
