The Grand Ballet Ukraine presents ‘Swan Lake on Water’, in an enthralling spectacle of classical ballet performed on water over four nights at the Tae Kwon Do Stadium in Athens.
Through years of training and continuous testing, choreographer Johan Nus maintains the classical foundations of Marius Petipa and Rudolf Nureyev’s choreography, specially training the dancers of the Grand Ballet of Ukraine for this unprecedented challenge of performance on water.
The magical atmosphere of the lake culminates when the stage is filled with rain, while the swans of the iconic choreography, rock in a waterfall of water and the holographic sets are integrated into the action, reinventing, the unique magic that befits a ballet like Swan Lake.
The mesmerizing movement of the first ballerina, Irina Khandazhevski, moves and awes to the timeless composition of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, as she performs Petipa’s classic choreography on water.
The dance troupe who were forced to flee their home in Kharkiv, Ukraine, when their city, including their beloved opera house, was bombed, regrouped in Europe to be able to continue this unique production.
Now, after the years of interruption due to the pandemic and war, ‘Swan Lake on the Water’ has started its world tour again, conveying to a global audience what it means to be avant-garde and perfect in ballet.
