The Benaki Museum presents the exhibition ‘Charmed lives in Greece’, examining the friendship of Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika (1906-1994) John Craxton (1922-2009) and writer, Patrick Leigh Fermor (1915-2011), from the early years of their acquaintance, in the mid-1940s, to the end of their lives.Through works of art, extracts from texts, photographs, letters, manuscripts and publications, visitors will be able to follow their relationship and their artistic and literary careers, with their love of Greece always as a common denominator.

As well as giving a chronological account, the exhibition plays on the theme of the places which inspired them; Hydra, Kardamyli in Crete and Corfu. Most of the artworks belong to the Ghika Gallery of the Benaki Museum and the Craxton Estate in London however, various extracts are sourced from museums and private collections in Greece and abroad.

The exhibition will later travel to the British Museum in London.
