The Koulouri of Psirri

193

A koulouri is a circle of bread sprinkled with sesame seeds and often found in small stands around the city for breakfast in Athens. If you want to go straight to the source of supply, The Koulouri of Psirri is where it’s at. The koulouri from Thessaloniki is a national favourite and Ilias Papageorgiou has tweaked and perfected the recipe creating the Koulouri of Psirri. Established in the‘90s, it has been a firm favourite with Athenians attracting all walks of like from past presidents and celebrities to late-night party-goers. Although the shop resembles a hole in the wall, buying bread straight from the oven is a privilege in any city.
