Why Stay: Good value, providing more than the average boutique hotel. Prime location
We Loved: Eating breakfast with a panoramic view of Athens and the Acropolis

For a medium sized boutique hotel, the St George Lycabettus Hotel Athens provides a mighty offering with two separate bars, a restaurant, gym, swimming pool and underground parking.

Located towards the base of the picturesque Lycabettus Hill, it is a stone’s throw from swanky Kolonaki. A wide selection of restaurants and shops are within walking distance.

With an impressive list of notable guests from royalty to Hollywood celebrities, they have what it takes to provide top notch service but this has not always been consistent in the five times I have stayed here. (note: we keep coming back!).

Having recently undergone extensive refurbishments to its rooftop restaurant and some of the guest rooms, the hotel blends modern and sophisticated elegance well. The standard rooms are functional but can be slightly cramped for a couple to share. The Premiere guest rooms provide extra space and a private balcony.

The rooftop breakfast is definitely worth getting out of bed for, with panoramic views of Athens and the Acropolis. On a whole, it provides more than the average boutique hotel and its prime location boosts its offering.

Why Athens Tip: If you’re walking back to the hotel, the climb back up the hill can be challenging.
